Free Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day a Success
The City of Port St. Lucie and the Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful Committee held another successful Hazardous Household Waste Drop-Off Day last month at the city’s Public Works complex. More than 350 cars drove through the complex, and drivers dropped off all kinds of harmful items that might have otherwise found their way into our environment.
Just imagine, 330 gallons of oil-based paint, 165 gallons of acid, and hundreds of gallons of used motor oil, antifreeze, fuels and other chemicals have not only been kept out of our ground water supply, but they’ve been cleaned out of residents’ garages as well. Residents also dropped off used propane tanks, aerosol cans, 2,000 batteries and scores of old TVs, computers, monitors and printers.
Thanks to all those who participated in making this event a success again and for doing your part to Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful. The next drop-off day will be held in January 2009.
