Serving on a board or committee is a great opportunity to participate in local government.

The City has 8 active advisory boards and committees, each created to perform specific functions.

Board members must live, work, or have an otherwise significant interest in the City.

In addition, the City looks for applicants with a history of community involvement, expertise and skill sets, and attendance at board meetings.

Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

Reviews established policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, the adopted Comprehensive Plan Policy of the City of Port St. Lucie, and other aspects of the City's policies and procedures that affect the cost of housing. In addition, the AHAC is responsible for making recommending specific actions or initiatives to encourage or facilitate affordable housing while protecting the ability of the property to appreciate in value.

Citizens Advisory Committee

Review proposed City budgets, budget amendments, the Capital Improvement Plan, and up to three service areas or revenue-specific expenditures. Provide recommendations to the City Manager prior to making recommendations to the City Council. Learn more about the City's Budget.

Construction Board of Appeals

Reviews applications for contractors licenses, recommends changes in licensing procedures to the City's Building Official, and hears formal complaints made by citizens against contractors.

Infrastructure Surtax Citizens Oversight Committee

Reviews the City's expenditure of Surtax proceeds tasked with helping ensure that the Surtax proceeds are expended in a manner consistent with City Ordinance 18-50, County Ordinance 18-004, and Florida State Statutes.

Municipal Police Officers' Retirement Trust Fund Board of Trustees

Sole and exclusive administration of and responsibility for the proper operation of the system serve as trustees of the fund.

Planning & Zoning Board

Designated as the local planning agency for the City. Produces and suggests plans for the zoning and arrangement of the city with a view to its general improvement and probable growth and demands. Prepares and recommends to the City Council a Comprehensive Plan and program for the installation of municipal improvements. Learn more about the Planning & Zoning Department.

Public Art Advisory Board

Presents a Public Art Master Plan for review and approval recommends specific public art projects, including the selection of works of art, special landscape treatments, and architectural enhancements maintain an Artist Registry of qualified artists to provide artworks for public spaces. Youth Council

The goal of the Youth Council is to teach young people about municipal government and provide opportunities for community leadership and service for the next generation of local leaders. Members will be able to voice their concerns regarding local issues, learn about the workings of local government and provide recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on youth-oriented topics and issues important to them. Term

All positions are voluntary, and members are not compensated for their time. However, the individuals who serve on the boards and committees provide an invaluable service to the city. Their advice and expertise on a wide range of topics assist the City Council in its decision-making process.

The majority of boards have a term of three years with no term limit. Some boards or committees meet once a month, while others meet less frequently. The meeting dates and times for each board and committee are set ahead of time to help members plan accordingly.
