Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation

The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation supports the City Manager, Mayor and City Council and City Team to envision our future, evaluate how we are doing, improve our services through innovation and advance the City’s grants and advocacy efforts to support funding the needs of residents. We oversee strategic partnerships with philanthropic institutions and nonprofit organizations and lead critical projects that across city departments and government organizations, advancing services to residents through design.

Where do we want to go? The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation leads the citywide strategic planning process and assists departments in building their departmental strategic operations plans.

How are we doing? The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation manages the City’s performance management system by working with departments to collect and analyze key performance data, and leadings the design of the National Community Survey, Citizen Summit and quarterly PSL STAT briefings and advancing the City’s efforts to grow as a What Works Cities Certified City. Key data points we evaluate quarterly in our Strategic Plan can be reviewed in our Strategic Plan Dashboard and Open Data Portal (coming soon).

How might we do things better? How might we put residents first through using human-centered design? The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation leads process improvement and innovation programs including the Innovate PSL Academy in partnership with the Human Resources Department, which empowers city staff to improve processes and outcomes for residents. The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation is also working to advance human-centered design throughout the City.

How might we advance city priorities through funding partnerships? The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation helps departments apply for grants to advance strategic priorities for a broad range of services including infrastructure and public safety. The Office of Strategic Initiative & Innovation leads the Citywide Grants & Advocacy Team, dedicated to securing funding and support for City priorities. The Office works with Port St. Lucie’s federal and state delegation and state and federal agencies to support the needs of Port St. Lucie residents, in alignment with the City’s Strategic Plan and annual State and Federal Legislative Programs.

How might we collaborate and partner to advance city initiatives? The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation is uniquely positioned in the City Manager’s Office to lead cross-departmental teams to advance City priorities, including developing High-Performance Public Spaces and advancing Smart City priorities throughout City departments. The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Innovation also oversees partnerships with nonprofit and philanthropic organizations aligned with the city’s priorities.
