City University

City University is a free nine-session course that offers participants a first-hand look into City operations.

Attendees must register for the entire class. Information and links will be emailed weekly.

Participants will

  • Learn about the relationship between the citizens, the City Council, its boards and commissions and City administration.
  • Learn how and why projects are undertaken and how services are provided.
  • Receive an overview of the budget planning process, the development review process and many other responsibilities and functions of city government.
  • Receive an interactive learning experience through site tours, group discussion and hands-on experience.
  • Graduate as an Ambassador of the City with a greater understanding of municipal operations.

On-Demand Program

If you’re interested in attending City University but can't commit to the regular Wednesday evening courses, we have a flexible option for you—recordings of past sessions are available on-demand!

Watch all 8 classes at your own pace, complete a short quiz for each one, and earn your City University certificate by scoring 70% or higher. After you've successfully completed the quizzes, your certificate will be sent to you via email. Once you begin the online test, you can save your progress(PDF, 280KB) and return later to finish at your convenience.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older. High school juniors and seniors may apply with a letter of recommendation from a teacher.
  • The City is working on creating a Youth City University program. If you are under 18 years old or have children who would be interested in participating, please let us know by writing to CityU@cityofpsl.com.
  • Must live or work in the City of Port St. Lucie.
  • If you miss more than two sessions, you will not receive a graduation certificate.
