Bulk Waste Guidelines

  • Bulk waste should be put out on your pickup day.
  • Bulk waste is limited to 2 cubic yards, which is equivalent to two standard front load washers.
  • Keep all carts and bulk piles three feet away from anything that may block the collection truck (carts, mailboxes, utility poles, trees and fire hydrants).

Acceptable curbside bulk waste items:

  • Barrels
  • Crates
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Exercise equipment
  • Swing sets and basketball goals (broken down)
  • Refrigerators
  • Stoves and other household appliances

Bulk items not accepted:

  • Materials from commercial waste haulers and contractors
  • Tree limbs exceeding 6 inches in diameter or root balls exceeding 50 pounds 
  • Land clearing debris
  • Bagged household garbage
  • Hazardous waste materials such as fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, sharps/needles, gasoline and oil, spray paint, stains, thinners, solvents, biological waste and radioactive waste, including smoke alarms/detectors.
  • Automotive, boat, RV or trailer parts
  • Tires
  • Engines
  • Any gas-powered equipment that must have the fuel drained
  • Propane, acetylene and helium tanks
  • Oil paint (Latex must have lids off and paint dry/hardened.)
  • Cardboard boxes should be broken down and placed in your green recycling cart.

Bulk Waste Questions

What is bulk waste?
Bulk waste collection is intended for items that are too large to fit inside the garbage cart. Bulk waste are items such as barrels, crates, furniture, mattresses, wood, exercise equipment, swing sets and basketball goals (broken down), refrigerators, stoves and other household appliances.

Is there a limit for bulk waste?
Yes, the limit is two cubic yards per month, which is equivalent to two standard front load washers.

When is bulk waste picked up?
Bulk waste is collected once per month on the same day as your other services.

Can you schedule an additional pickup for bulk waste?
Yes, residents can schedule additional bulk waste pickups. The City has negotiated a rate of $18.50 per cubic yard for pickup and disposal. To schedule additional pickup or request an estimate, call 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and press 5. Alternatively, residents can use any disposal service of their choice and schedule a pickup at their convenience.
