General Questions

How often is waste collected?
Garbage, recycling, and yard waste are collected once a week on the same designated day. Bulk waste is collected once a month on the same designated day.

What do I do if an item is not picked up?
Please contact 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and press 5 to report any missed collection.

Moving?
Don’t take the cart with you. Leave it at the original property and store it securely for the new occupant.

What happens if my pickup day falls on a holiday?
Independence Day (July 4), Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only observed holidays which will affect regular collection schedules. All collection days will be pushed back one day, excluding Sunday. (i.e. Thanksgiving, Thursday service will be Friday and Friday service will be Saturday).

How much does residential solid waste service cost?
Residential customers pay their solid waste bill once a year as a non-ad valorem assessment, which is separate from their property taxes, on their tax bills. The residential rate for FY 2024/25 is $446.44 per year. The annual rate of $446.44 breaks down to $37.20 per month which is $2.64 per curbside pickup.

Are you a new homeowner and need garbage and recycling carts?
New homeowners can call 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and press 5 to request carts.

Can I request an additional cart and what is the cost?
Yes, residents can request additional garbage or recycling carts for an annual fee. An extra garbage cart costs $75 per year, and an extra recycling cart costs $65 per year. This fee includes the cost of the cart, delivery, and additional collection service. To request an additional cart, call 772-871-1775 and press 5.

Can I swap out my cart?
Yes, you can exchange your cart for a one-time fee of $75 for the exchange. Call us at 772-871-1775 and press 5.

What should I do if my cart is lost, stolen or broken?
If your cart is lost, stolen, or broken, the City will replace it. Call us at 772-871-1775 and pressing 5.

Why can’t I use a store-bought garbage can?
Residents must use the provided carts for our automated garbage collection for several reasons:

  • Compatibility: Automated garbage trucks are designed to work only with city-issued carts. They are calibrated to the exact specifications of these standardized carts.
  • Functionality: Using different types of carts could result in the trucks failing to pick up the garbage properly, and could potentially damage customer-provided carts when lifted or returned to the ground.
  • Responsibility: Standardized carts ensure that the hauler is responsible for replacing any damaged carts.
  • Equity: When residents need more capacity, they must pay for additional service, ensuring fairness for all. A second city-issued cart confirms that the contractor is compensated for the extra service.

What if I live in a community with an HOA?
If your HOA regulates the placement and size of garbage carts, please contact your HOA to confirm the required cart size for your neighborhood.
