Yard Waste Guidelines

  • Don’t mix garbage and yard waste. Yard waste must be free of items such as metal, food waste, garbage, soil, sod and stones.
  • Limbs, logs and stumps cannot exceed 6 inches in diameter or 4 feet in length (excluding palm fronds) and cannot exceed 50 pounds per piece.
  • Piled yard waste needs to be neatly stacked.
  • Individual containers cannot exceed 50 pounds.
  • Yard waste piles are limited to 4 cubic yards per week. Four cubic yards is equivalent to the size of four standard front load washers. Yard waste piles exceeding the 4 cubic yard limit will be tagged and not collected. Removal of tagged yard waste will be the responsibility of the property owner.
  • All loose debris (grass clippings, leaves, pine needles, etc.) must be containerized or bagged using paper bags and weighing less than 50lbs. when filled. Pro Tip: Use paper bags instead of plastic; paper bags can be mulched up along with the debris; plastic cannot.
  • Yard waste cannot be obstructed or too close to powerlines, mailbox or other obstruction(s).
  • Place yard waste along the street in front of your home and avoid placing debris in a vacant lot or neighbor's home.

Yard Waste Questions

What is yard waste?
Yard waste is vegetative matter resulting from routine yard and landscaping maintenance, and includes, but is not limited to, shrub and tree trimmings, grass clippings, palm fronds and branches.

Limbs, logs and stumps cannot exceed 6 inches in diameter or 4 feet in length (excluding palm fronds) and cannot exceed 50 pounds per piece.

Is there a limit for yard waste?
Yes, yard waste collection is limited to 4 cubic yards per week. Four cubic yards is equivalent to the size of four standard front load washers, providing nearly 20 cubic yards of service per month, which is comparable to a typical construction dumpster. Yard Waste piles exceeding the 4 cubic yard limit, will be tagged and not collected. Removal will be the responsibility of the property owner.

Can you schedule an additional pickup for yard waste?
Yes, residents can schedule additional yard waste pickups. The City has negotiated a rate of $18.50 per cubic yard for additional pickup and disposal. To schedule, call 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and press 5. Alternatively, residents can use any disposal service of their choice and schedule a pickup at their convenience.

Yard Waste Ordinance

Sec. 50.06 (e): Residential collection at curbside - Yard Waste

1. Yard waste shall only be set out at curbside once each week on designated collection day. 

2. Yard waste shall be of such size that it can be readily loaded by one person and under 50 pounds per piece in weight.

  • Stumps, trees, limbs, and other larger pieces of yard waste shall be cut in lengths of no greater than 4 feet (except palm fronds) and shall not exceed 6 inches in diameter.

  • Such larger pieces of yard waste shall be stacked neatly in a pile at curbside and may be tied in a bundle.

3. Leaves, twigs, grass clippings, and other small pieces of yard waste shall be placed in garbage cans or biodegradable bags.
