The City of Port St. Lucie is committed to reducing excessive speeding and reckless driving on residential streets. Residents can support this effort by driving 25 mph, taking the "We Drive 25" Pledge, and spreading the word to family, neighbors, and friends.

On July 26, 2021, the City Council passed Ordinance 21-64, lowering speed limits from 30 to 25 mph in specified neighborhoods. The installation of 1,130 new street signs is now complete across Port St. Lucie, excluding gated communities.

Mayor Shannon Martin emphasized the importance of community involvement: “We made this change for the protection of our residents and neighborhoods. Individual choices and decisions are key to success.” Police Chief John Bolduc added, “Speed often contributes to preventable crashes. At 25 mph, drivers and pedestrians have more time to react, reducing the likelihood of serious injury or death.”

To promote the new speed limit, the City launched the “We Drive 25” campaign, offering educational tools and encouraging residents to take the637968566195000000.jpeg pledge. Participants can pick up free yard signs or window decals at City Hall, and access a social media toolkit and brochures on the City’s website.

For 12 years, Port St. Lucie has been named the Safest Large City in Florida and the second safest city in the nation. By driving 25, residents can help ensure safe roadways for all, including walkers, cyclists, runners, and letter carriers.
