SWAT Team

The Special Weapons and Tactics Team is a specialized unit within the PSLPD comprised of highly trained members. Since its implementation, SWAT’s goal is to provide for the safe execution of search warrants, dignitary protection and hostage negotiation situations.

S.W.A.T. provides a tactical response to barricaded subjects, active shooter incidents, terrorism and the handling of any critical incident which would require extensive tactical skills. S.W.A.T. provides the City of Port St. Lucie with a self-sufficient tactical team, utilizing special skills and tools.

SWAT Duties & Responsibilities

Crisis Negotiation Team

SWAT is an additional responsibility to the Officer’s primary work assignment.

SWAT is comprised of five elements:

  1. The entry team is the largest of the five elements and is comprised of members who receive specialized entry/tactical training and firearms training.
  2. The breaching team is responsible for opening secured doors, windows and clearing blocked avenues of entrance for SWAT team to make its safe entry.  It is trained in ballistic, mechanical, energetic, and thermal breaching.
  3. The sniper team specializes in precision marksmanship. It’s main objective is to obtain real-time intelligence and relay information back to SWAT leadership.
  4. The crisis negotiations team is considered a valuable link in saving the life of the person in crisis, through communication.
  5. The technical team are specially trained in the use of drones, robots and other technical tools.
