Published on October 10, 2024

Hurricane Milton Weather Watch

The City of Port St. Lucie is focusing on recovery operations from Hurricane Milton and closely collaborating with St. Lucie County officials and community partners to return the City to normal operations.

The following are updates for Thursday, Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m. This is expected to be the final advisory, unless an additional advisory is required.

New Information

Solid Waste: FCC Environmental Services will resume curbside garbage collection on the morning of Friday, Oct. 11. They will be servicing Thursday’s customers who were not collected because of Hurricane Milton.

This means Thursday’s customers should put their carts out by 7 a.m. for collection. Friday’s customers will be collected Saturday.

Customers should place all vegetative yard debris and storm-related debris in separate piles by the curb as soon as possible. The debris will be picked up, though it could take longer than usual due to higher volumes.

There will be no penalties for leaving the debris out past their scheduled day or due to its size.

All sports fields are expected to be open, contingent upon their condition.

The Saints Golf Course: The Saints Golf Course will remain closed to regular play until all course debris can be removed. The driving range is anticipated to be open Friday, Oct. 11 but customers are encouraged to call the pro shop to confirm. The Saints Pub will be open for normal business on Friday, Oct. 11.

Police Department: The Police Department will continue 13-hour emergency shifts throughout the night to ensure safety and security as the City continues recovery efforts from Hurricane Milton. We will conclude emergency shifts at 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11 and return to normal operations.

Public Works: Staff have actively been clearing debris from roadways, stormwater infrastructures, curbs and sidewalks. There are some sidewalks that are blocked from debris collection but will be removed by the Public Works team as quickly as possible. As of Thursday afternoon, there were no flooded streets.

If you observe potholes in roadways, please avoid them and report them through our 1PSL customer service system at 772-871-1775 or through the 1PSL app. The city is working to take care of these and other issues that are storm related. Proceed with caution as you drive on the roadways because if a pothole or the roadway has standing water you never know how deep a pothole is until it is too late.

Power Outages: As of 4 p.m., a total of 13,560 FPL customers did not have power. A total of 44,960 customers were affected, with 30,480 restored. Customers can report outages via phone, app or website:

According to FPL, employees and contractors are working to restore service to residents in Port St. Lucie and St. Lucie County. Restoration priorities are as follows: Emergency situations, power lines down, FPL facilities and substations, critical institutions (hospitals, emergency service stations), grids with highest population, restoration to all.

Important Reminders

The precautionary boil water notice has been lifted, as the City’s water treatment plants and water distribution system did not experience any issues during the storm. Some lift stations run on generator power and additional resources are sent to stations without power to ensure continual operation.

Utility technicians are being dispatched to resident’s homes to pump down grinder sewer systems for those without power. Residents are reminded to conserve water until power is restored. If you are experiencing a water or sewer issue, please call Connection Support at 772-873-6400.

Damage Assessment Teams: Teams have been working to assess damage throughout the City. Initial assessments included downed power lines and trees, stop signs that had been knocked over and minor localized flooding. Many of the issues already have been addressed, are being worked on or are being scheduled.

1PSL/Hotlines: Residents can contact the city through our 1PSL customer service system at 772-871-1775 or through the 1PSL app.
