July 4th holiday affects solid waste schedule

With the July 4th holiday approaching, the City of Port St. Lucie is reminding its residents of trash collection schedule changes. As a result of the July 4thholiday, the following schedule will be in effect for the collection of garbage, recycling, yard and bulk waste: 

  • Monday, July 1 through Wednesday, July 3: Regular collection schedule. 
  • Thursday, July 4: There will be no garbage collection because the landfill is closed.
  • Thursday's customers will be serviced on Friday, July 5.
  • Friday's customers will be serviced on Saturday, July 6.
  • Monday, July 8: The regular schedule resumes.

Port St. Lucie’s Convenient Drop-off Center will also be closed on Thursday, July 4, but will reopen on July 5. 

After the Independence Day celebrations, it's important to soak fireworks in water before securely bagging them and putting them in the black garbage cart to prevent fires.

 To help facilitate the curbside collection process, residents are asked to:

  1. Place black garbage carts and green recycling carts at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on your pickup day but no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before collection.
  2. All household trash and garbage must be bagged and fit inside your black cart with the lid closed. All recycling must fit inside your green cart with the lid closed. If you need an additional cart, please call the Office of Solid Waste at 772-871-1775 and press 5 (there is a monthly fee, billed annually by your service provider FCC Environmental Services, LLC). 
  3. Keep all carts and bulk piles three feet away from anything blocking the collection truck (carts, mailboxes, utility poles, trees and fire hydrants).
  4. Ensure the handle faces your house and the lid openings face the street. After service, all carts must be removed from the curb on the same day.
  5. Clean and dry plastic bottles, cups, and containers should be placed loose in the green recycling cart instead of being thrown in the trash.
