St. Lucie County Hurricane Milton Update No. 5

St. Lucie County offices remain closed through Friday, Oct. 11, as first responders and public works/utility crews are still conducting response and recovery efforts and are scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday, Oct. 14. County employees may be required to report to assist with recovery efforts and should check with their supervisor.
St. Lucie County Emergency Management officials continue to encourage residents to stay off the roads and stay inside unless necessary. Unnecessary traffic or bystanders will hinder response and recovery efforts.
Numerous homes and structures across St. Lucie County, including the City of Port St. Lucie and unincorporated areas, suffered significant damage. Residents are encouraged to help document the damage from Hurricane Milton by using our self-reporting Public Damage Report Form. The current death toll in St. Lucie County from Hurricane Milton stands at five fatalities.
The most heavily impacted areas include:
- Spanish Lakes Country Club Village
- Portofino Shores
- Holiday Pines
- Lakewood Park
- South Florida Logistics Center 95
- Sunnier Palms Park and Campground
- St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Garage
The St. Lucie County Landfill will reopen on Friday, Oct. 11, from 7 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and be open on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. St. Lucie County Solid Waste staff reminds residents that for questions regarding regular garbage pickup, they should contact their specific waste hauler directly. Storm debris, however, will be collected by a separate vendor contracted by the county. It is important that residents separate their storm debris into debris into five categories:
1. Normal household trash: Your regular household waste and recyclables will not be collected with storm debris. Stick to your normal garbage removal schedule.
2. Vegetative debris: This includes vegetation such as leaves, logs, plants, and tree branches. Do NOT put yard waste in bags.
3. Construction and demolition debris: This category includes cabinets, counters, doors, drywall, lumber, roofing and shingles, tile windows, wood siding, and vanities.
4. Bulk Waste: Items such as carpet, furniture, mattresses, plastic/PVC pipe, privacy fencing, vinyl siding, and pressure-treated wood.
5. Appliances and white goods: This category includes air conditioners, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators (remember to put food waste with household trash), stoves, washers and dryers, and water heaters.
St. Lucie Public Schools will remain closed through Monday, Oct. 14 and reopen for classes on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The St. Lucie County Tax Collectors office will remain closed through Friday, Oct. 11, and reopen to the public on Monday, Oct. 14. The St. Lucie County Property Appraiser’s office will remain closed through Friday, Oct. 11, and reopen to the public on Monday, Oct. 14. The St. Lucie County Clerk & Comptroller’s office will remain closed through Friday, Oct. 11, and reopen to the public on Monday, Oct. 14. The St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections’ office will remain closed through Friday, Oct. 11, and reopen to the public on Monday, Oct. 14. St. Lucie County Public Defender’s office will remain closed through Friday, Oct. 11, and reopen to the public on Monday, Oct. 14. The Office of the State Attorney and the 19th Judicial Circuit’s Office will remain closed through Friday, Oct. 11, and reopen to the public on Monday, Oct. 14.
St. Lucie County’s Area Regional Transit (ART) will operate regular services on Friday, Oct. 11.
